During law school, she further developed her advocacy skills through an externship with the Federal Defenders of Eastern Washington and Idaho where she met with incarcerated clients and gained courtroom experience handling petty-offense matters. Her experience has given her a particular appreciation for the importance of thorough preparation, clear communication, and zealous advocacy when a client’s freedom, family, or future is at stake.
Ysabella also developed a strong interest in family law through her work at Gonzaga University School of Law’s legal clinic, where she represented clients in matters involving family law. She understands that family law matters often arise during some of the most difficult and uncertain periods in a person’s life. She strives to provide her clients with both compassionate guidance and candid advice, helping them navigate difficult disputes while keeping their long-term interests at the forefront.
Ysabella earned her Juris Doctor from Gonzaga University School of Law, where she was actively involved in the legal community and served as President of the Black Law Students Association during her final year. She also participated in the Gonzaga Journal of International Law, was a board member of the Gonzaga Law Student Bar Association and was a board member of the Gonzaga Latino(a) Law Student Association and the Gonzaga Student Bar Association. Her academic work included research and writing focused on civil rights, criminal law, administrative law, and community-centered approaches to justice.
Before law school, Ysabella earned a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology with a minor in Criminal Justice. Her educational background in psychology and criminal justice informs her approach to advocacy and gives her a particular interest in understanding the human circumstances underlying legal disputes.
